What I am Thankful for.

Now that the hectic weekend is over, the food has settled and the crowd has dispersed I realize what I am thankful for. With all the posts, tweets and mass texts… the usual list has been covered many times over so this is a bit different.

1) I am thankful for the awful traffic. It helps me remember people have a place to go for the holidays.

2) I am thankful for the family members who annoy me at times. It helps me remember who I am and where I came from.

3) I am thankful for all the re-arranging and setting up extra tables. It reminds me that I have so many to share with.

4) I am thankful for all the stores being closed when you need something. It lets me know that sometimes there are more important things than work.

5) I am thankful for the weight I gained. It reminds me that I have more than enough and some have nothing at all.

6) I am thankful for screaming kids. It helps me remember the joy of being a kid.

7) I am thankful for the mess and clean-up afterwards. It is evidence that something big happened here, memories were made and I was part of it.

Finally, this year, I am even thankful that I was sick the entire time. It reminded me that people care, want me to feel good and notice when I am not. These are probably not the things most are thankful for. I hope you are now.

Just returned from an amazing 4 day trip to San Diego, CA for the DECA Western Region Leadership Conference. The event was produced by my great friends at Tri Leadership Resources and was easily one of the coolest events I have attended in years. This trip was especially great as I got to spend some time with my great friends and mentors, Bill Cordes and Phil Boyte who just happen to be two of the best youth speakers available. I probably took more notes than the students did while they were speaking.

Congratulations to all of the 1200 students in attendance, the amazing speakers and Team TRI for a successful and powerful weekend. GET DECA!
