Great People

“Great people are those who make others feel that they, too, can become great.” ~Mark Twain.

My fiance shared this quote with me recently. Actually, she brought me a page off of a desk calendar with this quote and said “it made me think of you.” In doing so, she made my day but also helped me remember the power a small gift can have.

She could have easily texted the quote or told me when she got home but taking the extra 5 seconds to tear it off, bring it with her and hand deliver it, made a much bigger impact.

One of the ways great people make others feel that they can be great is through such random acts of kindness. With the holidays coming up it is easy to feel that we can show our love, gratitude or respect with a dollar amount. Sometimes the best gift is one that is personal, not expected and takes a small amount of effort. Taking 10 minutes out of your day to mail a newspaper clipping or note to a friend, colleague or customer shows that you were not only thinking of them but you also took the time to show how much they mean to you.

Great people don’t just care. They show others how much they care. That is what makes them great people.
